Judd Reed

FMARS-10 Crew Portrait - Judd ReedMission Commander Judd Reed has spent nearly 20 years developing image processing systems for satellite and medical applications. In the mid-1980's he worked on a nascent microcomputer based image processing system, maintained and the system that down linked and printed all LANDSAT imagery, and built real-time subsystems for TIROS-n (NOAA) ground receiving stations. He then switched from remote sensing to medical imaging.

He developed, and for many years led the team that provided image processing solutions for computed tomography at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN. He holds several patents involving virtual reality techniques to help a radiologist detect pre-cancerous lesions with computed tomography. Judd is now the Director of Software Products at Image Analysis Inc, a Kentucky company which produces enhancements to computed tomography scanners for the quantitative assessment of calcium concentration in bone and other tissues.
