FMARS-8 Crew Biographies Ella Carlsson Ella Carlsson is 31 years old and she lives in Sweden above the Arctic Circle in a town called Kiruna (68 degrees north). She is currently a student pursuing her MSc in Space Engineering at Luleå University of Technology. She was recently accepted as an intern at NASA Ames Research Center to do research for her final thesis with Dr. Chris McKay concerning escape rate of gases from Mars. Ella has a background as a military officer in the Swedish Air Force and has been working there as an aircraft technician for several years. She has also worked for UN-forces both in Bosnia and Kosovo as an operation and liaison officer. She loves to hike in the mountains, summer and wintertime. She also enjoys singing, playing the piano, scuba diving and in the summer she sails both for competition and recreation. And of course her passion is Space with focus on Mars exploration. She is really looking forward to going to FMARS!
