FMARS-8 Crew Biographies
Peter Hong Ung Lee
Peter H.U. Lee is a German-born Korean-Canadian, currently completing an M.D./Ph.D. at Brown Medical School in Providence, RI. He received a B.S. degree from Brown University in 1994 in Neuroscience and a Master of Space Studies degree from the International Space University in 1997. He will be completing his Ph.D. in 2003 and his M.D. in 2005. He plans to complete residencies in Emergency Medicine and Aerospace Medicine. Peter hopes to pursue his career interests in aerospace medicine and space biological research.
His research interests have been in biotechnology and muscle atrophy, as well as various aspects of aerospace medicine. He has spent three months in Moscow working with space-flown monkeys from Bion 11, flown a space shuttle experiment on STS-95, and advised 6 KC-135 parabolic flight experiments looking at issues related to surgery, CPR, and airway management in microgravity.
Peter is a licensed EMT, a private pilot, and a Captain in the U.S. Air Force Auxiliary (a.k.a. Civil Air Patrol), as well as a 6th degree black belt Master in Taekwondo. Additionally, He enjoys scuba diving, rock climbing, and rollerblading. He looks forward to his first experience with FMARS and hopes significantly to contribute to the scientific research efforts of the mission. |
